The Coalition DOES NOT rent or loan car seats or booster seats.

Alaska Vehicle Passenger Safety laws apply to all visitors and tourists travelling the roadways of Alaska by passenger vehicle (rental or privately-owned), taxi, and limousine. Appropriate restraint use is mandatory for all vehicle occupants (please see "Alaska Law" page).

Car rental companies

Car rental companies may offer car seat rentals; however, few can guarantee the correct style of seat for your child. Seat expiration, recall status, or cleanliness may not be favorable.

Taxi and Ride Share Companies

Taxi and Ride Share Companies cannot guarantee the correct style of seat for your child will be available. Seat expiration, recall status, or cleanliness may not be favorable.

Tour Buses, Shuttle Buses, School Buses, City Buses & Motor Coaches

Tour Buses, Shuttle Buses, School Buses, City Buses, & Motor Coaches may or may not be equipped with seat belts, depending on model year and style of the bus.

  1. Car seats and booster seats are designed to be used ONLY on forward-facing vehicle passenger seats with factory-installed seat belts. Booster seats require the use of lap and shoulder seat belt systems.
  2. Inquire with your tour company for more information on the specific vehicles in use.

Motor homes, Campers & RVs

Motor homes, Campers, & RVs may or may not be equipped with seat belts in passenger seating areas, depending on model, class, & manufacture year.

  1. Inquire with the motor home rental company or owner for more information on the availability of passenger seat belts.
  2. Reminder: Side facing motor home "sofas" and rear-facing dining area seats are NOT designed for installation of child car seats. Car seats and booster seats are designed to be used ONLY on forward-facing vehicle passenger seats with factory-installed seat belts. Booster seats require the use of lap and shoulder seat belts.

Alaska Railroad

Alaska Railroad does not require the use of child restraints on train cars.

Alaska Marine Highway

Alaska Marine Highway does not require the use of child restraints on Ferries.

Airline Travel

Most major US airlines DO NOT charge for car seats or booster seats checked as baggage.
